Online Roulette Strategies

Playing online roulette is as simple as betting on your favourite number and hoping that wherever the ball lands matches what you’ve bet on. While many players might see Roulette as a game of chance, there are certain strategies that players can apply to make sure they have the maximum chance to win.

Regardless of the type of casino game a player plays, whether it is a game of luck or a strategy game or a bit of both, we’d never suggest players to bet blindly. Although it is true that players have very little to do with the outcome of the roulette wheel, betting patterns and spreading risk can still be controlled. With reasonable strategy, you can win in roulette from the comfort of your home, playing in your favourite Aussie casino on the internet.

Before we move forward with basic roulette strategies, we’d like to make sure that players are completely clear on the rules of playing roulette. In this article we skip all the basic rules and go straight to strategies. Therefore, if players haven’t quite got the hang of how to play roulette and have a clear understanding of all the betting options, please visit our ‘Roulette Guide’ first in which explain in detail how roulette is played.

We first take a quick look at how players loose quickly in Roulette. This should help you in areas that you should avoid.

Go straight to strategies

  • Bet only what you can afford to loose

This might sound like one of those betting clichés that everyone suggests and there’s a good reason for it. While this suggestion of ours negates some of our strategies explained below, our point is that players should have a budget. Allocate a portion of your total balance, especially when you are starting fresh with roulette.

  • Stop random bets

We cannot emphasize enough that roulette isn’t strictly a game of chance. Your account is set, you’ve made a deposit and you’re playing a game loved by millions around the world, so why trash your bankroll by placing random bets. Always be clear on your betting pattern.

  • Stick to European Roulette

If you really are looking for some great wins in Roulette, why play a game where the odds are against you. Play a version of the game where the chances of you winning are slightly higher. With American Roulette you get a ‘00’ double zero which means you’ve got less chance of hitting even or odds or a colour of your choice. Whether it is short term or long term, an additional number definitely increases the house edge.

  • Try and avoid inside bets

Many players look to take chances and win big by placing bets on one specific number. While the risk might pay off and you may win big, this is how people loose big as well. The chances of hitting one single number are 1 in 37 while the payout is 35:1. Instead, place bets where the chances of winning and payouts are equal, such as Even/Odd bets or Red/Black etc.

Now we start with betting patterns.

Strategy 1: Play with 1:1 bets such as even/odds or red/black

You should know well by now that Even/Odds and Red/Black bets have a payout of 1:1. If you bet $1 and you win, you get another $1. You also have a 50/50 chance (or very close to it considering there’s 1 out of 37 chances that you’ll hit a 0) of winning the bet and that’s what we’ll take advantage of.

The strategy is,

  • Start by placing a bet on either even or odd. Let’s say your first bet is on odd.
  • If you WIN, place an equal amount bet on EVEN.
  • If you still WIN, switch back to ODD with the same bet amount, but if you lose, double you bet on EVEN. Keep doubling your bet until you hit even and you’ll be one up.
  • Then switch to ODD and continue the same
  • The same strategy can be applied to Black/Red colour bet.

The mathematical theory behind this strategy is, if you make a $1 bet and you lose, bet $2 on the next hand (preferably on the same bet although it’s not much of an issue), bet $4 if you lose that again and double it to $8 if you lose again; so far you have $15, and if you win the $8 bet, you’ll win $16 therefore you’re up $1. If your initial bet is greater than $1, at the end you’ll be winning that amount, so for example if you start with a $5 bet and keep doubling it, with the above strategy, you’ll end up profiting $5 at the end.

Strategy 2: Mix the row bet with the colours bet

If you haven’t taken good looks the roulette table, take a good look below.

The 36 numbers are divided into groups of 3 rows. Within these rows, you’ll notice that the first 12 has 6 red numbers and 6 black ones, the second 12 has 4 reds and 7 black numbers and the last row has 8 reds and 4 blacks.

So the strategy is,

  • Place a bet on the second row and an equal bet on black OR
  • Place a bet on the third row and an equal bet on red.

If the row bet wins, you now have a good chance to strike the colour bet as well. Even if the row bet fails, your colour bet still gives a 47.3% chance to break even.

Strategy 3: Take advantage of colour distribution

This strategy might sound similar to the second strategy we’ve explained above; while it applies similar principle, the mathematics behind it is different.

We remind you that the third row has only 4 blacks and 8 reds and this is what we take advantage of in this strategy.

The strategy is,

  • Place equal bets on the first and second row.
  • Place an equal bet on the colour red.

While this strategy may seem odd at first, since the first two rows have the least reds, in the long term it theoretically pays off.  Let’s say you place a $1 bet on the first two rows and a red. If the ball lands on a number from the first or second row and lands on a black, you’ll breakeven but if it lands on a red number within the first 2 rows, you’ll be up $2. Even if the ball lands on a number from the third column, you have twice the chance of getting red than black.
